- Walking 7:30am
Cooler weather for walking enthusiasts is on the way. Join us Monday-Friday at the East Boxford Community Center (if it is not raining or, later on, snowing). We walk about 3 ½ miles–it is good exercise to keep us fit. Dogs are welcome. A message goes out every day by 7:00 or before to all members with updated information. Come and join us. From time to time we plan fun walks in Newburyport, Salem and other places. These walks are followed by a breakfast, a visit to a gallery or to a gourmet shop. Contact Ileana for more details. - 7
- Board Meeting 7:00pm
The September board meeting will be held at Nikki’s home. Michele will co-host. Please email Nikki by Saturday, September 4 if you plan to attend. - 8
- Community Service Opportunity 9:30am – noon
The new school year is rapidly approaching! The Community Giving Tree collects and distributes backpacks with school supplies for children in need. As a community service, the N & N group helps by filling the backpacks in preparation for distribution. Anyone who would like to help is welcome to help out at the Community Giving Tree which is located at 570 Main Street in West Boxford. Donation bins are also located throughout the town. Feel free to bring any last minute donations with you on the 8th! We look forward to seeing you there! For questions please email Donna and Kathleen. - 11
- Family Activities 10:00am
A warm welcome back to our new season of family-inspired activities. Our first excursion will be a visit to Russell Orchards in Ipswich. The farm is comprised of 120 acres of land used to grow a wide array of crops, including twenty-five varieties of apples. Do join us for a New England tradition of fall apple picking at 10 am. Afterwards enjoy freshly squeezed cider, hot cider doughnuts, scones (which rival my own) and other baked goods, and peruse their impressive selection of fruit wines. Let the nippers run wild in the playground, visit “Big Boy”, the pig, and enjoy a live musical performance by “Daisy Nell and Capt. Stan”. Russell Orchards is located at 143 Argilla Road, Ipswich, MA 01938. Kindly RSVP to Celeste. - 11
- Drinks ‘n Snacks 7:00pm
Join your N & N friends on Saturday, September 11th, for a relaxed evening of …well…drinking and snacking! The theme is The Big Apple. We’ll be tasting and enjoying the wines of New York State and snacking on your contributions of either an appetizer or a dessert. (yes, I know New York City is the Big Apple and there are no vineyards there, but it was the best I could do in the theme department:-) In addition, and in honor of the theme, we’ll have a bit of Calvados on offer – apple brandy from Normandy.
We’ll be gathering at Mary Beth and Bob’s house and you can let me (Mary Beth) know that you’re planning on attending. Let me know how many wine drinkers from your household will be in attandance, and if you could know whether you’ll be bringing an appetizer or a dessert, it’d be a help. I’ve not done the wine shopping yet, so am not 100% sure of the cost per wine drinker, but it’ll be either $10 or $15 – as soon as I have an idea of how many attendees to expect, I’ll be able to come up with a more specific charge. We hope to see you on the 11th – an opportunity to re-connect with old friends and make some new ones – that’s what N & N is all about! Any questions, contact Mary Beth . - 15
- The Needlers 10:00am – noon
This is a relaxing couple of hours on the third Wednesday morning of the month… we get together with our knitting needles, crochet hooks, quilting projects, mending, needlepoint, or ‘whatever’. Coffee and tea and water are available (but no sticky, sweet stuff to get on fabric or yarn!). Watch for the location each month in the newsletter and give it a try. The first meeting of the year will be at Dotti’s house. We’ll be signing up that day for the monthly hosting ‘duty’. There could also be a ’show and tell’ of completed summer projects (what, ‘needle’ during the summer?). For more info or to RSVP, please contact Dotti. Hope to see you! - 18

Scrapbooking! 7-10pm
Have you felt that morning nip in the air these last few days? It’s hard to believe the summer is winding down and the kids are back in school. We imagine you’ve amassed a multitude of summer memories and may need some time and space to organize them. Why not join the Newcomers and Natives scrapbooking club? We are looking forward to kicking off another year at Meredith’s home. Bring your paper project or laptop and we’ll provide the workspace, refreshments, and friendly faces. Even if you are between projects or not sure of what you’re going to tackle next, come for the conversation! We’d love to see you! If you are able to join us, please let Nikki and Meredith know. See you then!- 23
- Ladies’ Night Out 7:30pm – 9:00pm
LNO kicks off September with a Women’s Self-Defense Class at Mark Warner’s Professional Martial Arts Academy located at 77 Turnpike Road, (Route 1) in Ipswich. Our class will be taught by Tashi Deborah Mahoney. “Tashi” is her title, and it means “teacher of teachers.” The program is designed to give a few simple tools to effectively defend ourselves, should the need arise. The cost is $5/pp, which will go to charity, and we need at least five people. RSVP to Lisa and Melinda. It’s going to a fun and very empowering experience. Come join us! - October 2010
